Kelsy Brookins

Director

Mrs. Brookins teaches English and Theater Arts. Her favorite directing credits at GHS include PUFFS (2024), Clue: HS Edition (2021), The Addams Family (2021), The Doctor in Wonderland (2019), The Little Dog Laughed (2017), and A Murder is Announced (2017). She was the Choreographer for Beauty and the Beast (2019) and the Costume Designer for Seussical the Musical (2016).

Originally from the Madison area, she is a life-long theater kid, starting by telling dramatic stories in the backyard and performing in church plays. In high school, she was fortunate to learn from The Rick Braun. She obtained her degree in Theatre Education and Secondary English Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She began her professional teaching career at Pardeeville Area High School. At PAHS, she worked in a wonderful gym-a-torium directing Peter Pan and Wendy and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Mrs. Brookins is passionate about inclusion and involvement in the Hawks Drama program. Students can come as they are and find a place for themselves in the program. She encourages all students that have an interest in a theatrical field to join a production or take a class and explore that interest.

His past Greenfield credits include: Guys and Dolls (Scenic and Sound), The Doctor in Wonderland  (Lighting, Scenic, and Sound), and Disney's Beauty and the Beast (Scenic and Sound).

Some of Steve's past Assistant Lighting Design credits include A Year With Frog & Toad at Children's Theatre Company, MN and Energy and U with the UofM Theatre/Chemistry Departments. A favorite Sound design credit is Oklahoma! at Skylight Music Theatre. Additionally, he has worked extensively with Skylight Music Theatre as their Lighting and Projections Programmer, and Lead Electrician for the Cabot Mainstage since 2017. Some shows Steve programmed were Carmina Burana, Five Guys Named Moe, Urinetown, Zombies from The Beyond, Doubt, and Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Jersey Lily.

He received his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and Design with an emphasis on Lighting Design from the University of Minnesota's Department of Theatre and Dance. While at UMN, Steve also began doing theatre photography to capture his designs, which allowed him to be published by the University for their BFA/Guthrie training program.

Hawks Drama Mission:
Greenfield Drama strives to provide a hands-on experience that allows students to take creative risks, fail, and try again in a safe environment while learning skills in leadership, safety, collaboration, and theater-specific skill and knowledge. Greenfield Drama is open to students with varying degrees of theater interest,  and we stress the importance of safety while working in the various locations in the theater space. The leaders and advisers of the program value teaching through hands-on experience for the students where the students are actively engaged in the process of mounting a production.
